
Wolfgang E. Nagel received his PhD from RWTH Aachen in 1993 and has been a Full Professor at Technische Universität Dresden since 1997. Holding the Chair of Computer Architecture in the Faculty of Computer Science since 2001, he currently serves as the Director of the Institute of Computer Engineering. Additionally, he is the Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS) at TUD, which addresses cross-disciplinary scientific fields in the spectrum of digitization, modeling and simulation, high performance computing, AI, data analytics, and other digitalization topics. He is running the Department Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH) since 2005, which today provides HPC data expertise, support, and computational resources to all universities in Germany – as part of the German NHR funding scheme. Following the initiation of ScaDS Dresden/Leipzig, one of the Big Data competence centers funded by the BMBF since 2014, he is now responsible for ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig – one of the six German AI competence centers, with a major focus on big data and data analytics. Since 2022, he also is a member of the steering committee of the German Center for Astrophysics (DZA) in Görlitz and contributes to the Data Science activities there.
